Brian holds the record for the fastest ever five goals hall in an English game, just 20 minutes against West Brom at home on the 16 April 1965.
‘We got two points for it, that’s what I remember,’ Dear says, laughing. ‘Two points and £4. It was £4 for a win then — taxed. And no image rights!’ just 80p per goal.
An injury to Johnny ‘Budgie’ Byrne gave Brian a well earned chance to play in the European Cup Winners’ Cup final victory over TSV 1860 Munich at Wembley.
